Beware of the Dark Side of the Moon!

Yesterday I was at the premiere screening of Iron Sky at the Berlinale. What can I say? I loved it!

What’s so special about that movie? Well, it has space Nazis in it – but it was also crowdfunded and created in close collaboration with the web community.

The story: In 2018, the president of the United States (who bears a strong resemblance to Sarah Palin) is launching a new moon mission in order to boost her reelection campaign. But then the astronauts discover a Nazi military base on the dark side of the moon, who retreated there in 1945 and have been planning their conquering return to earth ever since.

(Iron Sky director Timo Vuorensola before the screening)

Not all reviews on Iron Sky were positive, though I don’t know why. It’s a B movie, it’s nerdy, it’s full of references to other movies and Internet memes. It’s just hilarious. I got everything I expected, and more.

As someone said on Twitter yesterday:

“Iron Sky is cheesy, full of plotholes and totally meta. I two words: fucking awesome!” Hard to disagree with that :-)

Iron Sky will premiere in German theaters on 5th of April.
